With a company the size of Cook, chances are that our patients and their caregivers could also be our coworkers and friends. Scott, a trainer in Cook’s fitness center, is the Dad of a 13-month-old “tubie.” In preparation for Feeding Tube Awareness Week, Scott shared his thoughts on caring for an adorable little guy that happens to have a feeding tube.
“When we learned that Reyker needed a feeding G-tube, we didn’t know what to expect. After his doctor placed the tube, we got to see Reyker and we were like, ‘Where is it?’ You can’t even tell he has a feeding tube when he’s wearing a onesie.
There is everyday maintenance, like cleaning, and as he gets older he’s more interested in the button. Except for the feeling that you want your son to eat normally, having a feeding tube really doesn’t change life much. It’s just one part of Reyker’s life.”
