The International Federation of Head and Neck Oncologic Societies (IFHNOS) celebrates its second annual World Head and Neck Cancer Day on July 27th. This day raises awareness for Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC), which generates a global incidence of approximately 500,000 cases and 200,000 deaths every year. HNSCC cancers in areas like the oral cavity, pharynx, and larynx plague adults of all ages and backgrounds although these cancers are among the most preventable with early detection.
With the support of 52 Head & Neck Oncology societies in 45 countries as well as the International Union Against Cancer, IFHNOS hopes to “strengthen health care systems and introduce approaches for awareness, risks, prevention, and early detection” while “enhance[ing] expertise of physicians by upgrading their knowledge and skills through CME programs”.
Our team will be wearing red to support World Head and Neck Cancer Day. Join us by wearing red and raising awareness in your community or by tweeting @CookOHNS hashtag #awaREDness.
