For the Urology team at Cook, the 11th month of the year is our favorite. We participate in Movember — a global effort to raise awareness and money for men’s health issues, particularly prostate cancer.
There are a lot of fun parts about Movember. Our guys grow moustaches all month long as part of our Movember team, and the women get creative in joining the effort as well (think Photoshop and sticky ‘staches).
But driving the fun is a serious and important cause. Every 16 minutes, a man will die of prostate cancer. It’s the second most common kind of cancer in the U.S, and although it’s not invariably fatal, more than 233,000 men will be diagnosed this year.
These numbers can go down. With proper education about screening, symptoms, and prevention, we can make a difference for these men who suffer. And we should.
We encourage you to get involved. Join our team, grow your own ‘stache, and stay tuned for more from us throughout the month. We’ll be sharing screening and prevention information, keeping you updated on our ‘staches, and doing our part to raise awareness and money for research and prevention. We hope you’ll join us.
Please share pictures of your ‘stache progress with us on Twitter at @CookUro, on Facebook, or e-mail us at socialmedia@cookmedical.com. And don’t worry — if you can’t grow your own ‘stache, we’ve got your back! Download our favorite ‘staches here and send us a picture of you wearing your favorite. We’ll be sharing pictures throughout the month!
